"I'm almost fluent" word of the day 9.14

Here in Quebec we have Bureau en Gros which is the French version of the office supply store Staples. I'm guessing that that the Staples stores in the US don't have two rows of French dictionaries for back to school shopping time....

The "I'm almost fluent" word of the day is....

bureau

Which means office, or can also mean desk. So if you work in the US, next time try "I'm off to the bureau." Impressive.

A little story for you. When I first came to Canada, I noticed most names were translated in Québec. I.e. for French, hotdog is hotdog but for Québécois, it's chien chaud (literally hot dog). So I thought Staples was the same... and I called the shop "agrafes" (which means "staples" in French). No wonder no one understood what I meant! :-D
